Reflection & evaluation
Problem solving & Reflection
In this context reflection relates to the application of intellectual curiosity and rigour in making judgements and establishing meaning and values, and the level of contemplation and deliberation necessary to progress and achieve identified goals.
Recording of your reflection and problem solving should be written analysis, audio recordings, meeting minutes, feedback discussions, peer discussions, emails etc. Any communication or discussions record and reflect throughout your process.
Reflect on your processes, technical learning and activities, for example YouTube tutorials with tests, how the test has influenced your product, problems and solutions you faced with the software..
Reflection and problem solving should be a consistent diary of activities and progress that has informed your decision making and planning. Difficult areas of problems should show solutions and processes throughout the project.
Areas of reflecting relate to the following;
Research
-
What new information have you learnt (give specific details)?
-
How has this improved your skills and/or knowledge (give specific details)?
-
What impact will this have on what you do next (give specific details)?
-
How will this impact your final project (give specific details)?

Pre Production
-
How well have you completed the task/s (think about detail/ depth of what you did)? How have you improved from last time you carried out the same task/s?
-
How are they going to help you to carry out the project well/ better? Why is/are the task/s important?
-
What new knowledge or experience or skills have you developed? What impact could this have on your project?
-
How well did you work as a team?
-
Are there any issues or problems you encountered? How did you solve them?
-
What do you still need to do and what could you improve on?

Action Research
-
What action research did you carry out? Explain what research (YouTube videos watched, resources read/used) you did and what practical tasks you did.
-
Why did you choose these tasks/ skills? How did these link to the brief and/or developing your skills?
-
How did these help to improve your skills? How will this impact your final production? How useful was this action research?
-
What problems did you encounter while doing these tasks? How did you solve them and/ or what will you do next time to avoid these problems.
-
What do you still need to do and what could you improve on?
Make sure you include a lot of evidence of what you did (e.g. Edited sequences, behind the scene photos of setting up/ working, short clips/ screenshots of what you did, audio clips etc)
Production
-
How effective was the pre-production planning? How did it help you to film successfully (be specific - talk about the tasks you completed, BRING SCREENSHOTS BACK IN OF RESEARCH & PRE-PRODUCTION)? Are there ways in which you could improve your pre-production planning so that it better support you and makes filming go better?
-
How well did you apply your research to your filming? Give specific examples/ details/ links back to research activities - Bring back your research onto the blog.
-
What new skills have you developed from doing all this filming/recording? How have you improved your existing skills (eg framing, recording sound, shot variety, directing, lighting etc)
-
What problems did you have and how did you solve them? What could you do in the future to stop problems from occurring.
-
How will this experience impact your future work/ quality?

Post Production
-
Explain what editing you have done in the last few lessons. Effects, colours, reshoot etc
-
What issues/ problems have you had so far, how have you solved them and how are you going to avoid these problems in the future?
-
Explain why you have made the editing choices you had made so far eg the ordering of your shots (eg what have you started with and why, how does it fit the three act structure, build conflict and tension, reflect genre conventions etc) adding in effects (why these effects), editing sound/audio, adding in non diegetic sound, transitions etc. JUSTIFY your choices/ decision by making links to the PURPOSE of your short film, how you have used genre conventions and what you learnt about in RESEARCH, how it will appeal to your TARGET AUDIENCE, the HARD SKILLS and SOFT SKILLS you are developing.

TAKE SCREENSHOT OF YOUR PROJECT SO FAR TO SHOW WHAT YOU HAVE DONE - TIMELINE, INDIVIDUAL SHOTS, EFFECTS ADDED, BEFORE/ AFTER EVIDENCE ETC

Evaluation
In addition to your on-going reflections you must produce a summative analytical evaluation of your project/production that includes:
AO1: Use research to inform a specialist investigation in a visual arts area, considering purpose and audience.

-
Explain your reasons for choosing a particular project subject/concept – consider purpose and audience.
-
How have primary / secondary research, practical action research, pre production creation and technical engagement supported the developing understanding of your subject?
-
Explain how you think these methods have supported and impacted on your development.

AO2: Use specialist materials and media to generate and communicate ideas and concepts in a specified context.

-
What were the reasons for choosing your project within your selected specialist context?
-
Reflect on all the specialist materials and media you have explored to generate ideas (tutorials, tests, production examples, pre production etc). How appropriate were they to the development of your concepts/ideas?
-
How have you chosen to present and contextualise your ideas to meet your aims and the requirements of the brief?

AO3: Select and use specialist techniques and processes to develop, refine and present ideas and outcomes that meet the requirements of the brief.

-
What have the most effective techniques and processes been to support your exploration of ideas?
-
How comprehensive have you been in testing techniques and processes and how has this process of experimentation supported you in developing and refining ideas?
-
How well have you adapted to unforeseen practical and technical problems?

AO4: Use ongoing evaluation to inform and progress a specialist investigation in a visual arts area.

-
Identify the aims and objectives that you were interested in developing when you started your final project. How effective have you been in reflecting on your developing work and progress against these targets?
